The European Commission predicts in its latest market report that world olive oil production will be over 3,105,000 tons, almost 100,000 tons below the previous season and the lowest figure since the 2016/17 season. (2.56 Mt).
In the European Union, the forecast of almost 2.11 Mt of olive oil could still be revised somewhat downwards. Spain is estimated at 1.45 Mt (+ 10%) which, with the data already advanced for the month of February, could be even somewhat lower and remain in the vicinity of 1.4 million, up or down.
Italy and Greece would equal their production records, with 270,000 t, respectively.
Portugal would obtain in the current campaign only 100,000 t, with a decrease of 29% and 29,000 t over the previous campaign, while in other producing countries (Croatia, France, Slovenia, Malta, Cyprus …) production would increase by 33%, to add 17,000 tons.
In third countries, the big cut is made by Tunisia, which would lose 66% of its previous production in 2020/21, achieving just 120,000 t, some 230,000 t less than in the previous season.
The second non-EU producer country would be Turkey, with a forecast of 222,000 t of olive oil, just 1% and 3,000 t less than last season, followed by the Republic of Syria, with 126,000 t, 5% and 6,000 t more.
