Italy is once again the second producing country of olive oil in the world

Italy returns to the second step of the podium of world olive oil production for the 2021/2022 campaign. This has been announced by Unaprol (Italian Olive Consortium).

According to estimates based on official figures published by the International Olive Council, Spain is the undisputed queen of the olive oil production sector. The country has almost 1.3 million tons produced, 6.4% less than last year.

Greece, with a decline of 18.2%, falls from second to fifth place, also surpassed by Tunisia and Turkey. The North African country recorded an increase of 71.4% to 240 thousand tons of product, while Turkey rose from 210 to 228 thousand tons (+8.3%).

Among the other producing countries, Morocco performed well, with its 200 thousand tons, increasing its olive production by 25%, while Portugal grew (+20%) and Algeria also showed significant growth (+39%).
