Iberostar Group, Acciona Energía and Enagás establish a pioneering agreement for the supply of green hydrogen energy in the hotels of the hotel group in Mallorca.
The agreement will mean the reduction of natural gas consumption by up to 5% in its hotels. As a result, the group will become the first consumer of renewable hydrogen in the country’s tourism sector.
The fuel will be obtained from the first renewable hydrogen plant in Spain, in Lloseta, Mallorca. The contract is part of the Balearic Government’s strategic industrial project Power to Green Hydrogen Mallorca and the European project Green Hysland.
On the other hand, Acciona Energía is in charge of supplying the hydrogen through its GreenH2Chain blockchain platform.
This technology will allow monitoring the consumption of renewable hydrogen.
In addition, the Iberostar Group has set itself the goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2030. This is in addition to offsetting a minimum of 75% of its emissions through blue carbon solutions by 2030.
Green Hysland
This innovative project aims to establish a green hydrogen ecosystem in Mallorca that can be exported to other islands.
The end use of this energy source would not only serve the tourism sector, but is also envisaged for use in public and commercial buildings, city buses and commercial vehicles.
The consortium is made up of 30 partners from 11 different countries and is co-funded by the European Commission’s Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) with a grant of 10 million euros for the period 2021-2025.
As we said, Green Hyland is an offshoot of the main project Power to Green Hydrogen Mallorca. The latter includes the development of an electrolysis plant to produce more than 300 tons of renewable hydrogen.
In turn, the construction will be powered by two photovoltaic parks located in Petra and Lloseta.
