According to the forecasts of the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service, the almond harvest in California will reach a record level again, if the drought does not prevent it, which has influenced the national market, which remains with few operations and with downward trend in prices.
The estimated acreage for 2021 will reach a record 1,330,000 acres of production compared to 1,250,000 the previous year and with a near-record yield that is set at 2,410 pound / acre. Therefore, this would be the third highest yield achieved in the history of the California almond industry.
Regarding the production of almonds in California in 2021, it is estimated that it will be 3,200 million pounds (approximately 1,451,000 tons) being 3% higher than last year’s production.
On the other hand, according to Generandi´s data, in 2020 Spain imported 88065 tons of shelled almonds, which occupies approximately 88% of total imports.
